When I think of alcohol, I think of a man with slurred speech, staggering from one side to the other, then falling down to the ground face forward flat on his face. This is the face of alcohol and what it does to you. That’s why I call it the drunken man’s drink. Drinking alcohol is one of the worst things anyone can do to his health. It causes so many health problems such as vitamin deficiency, skin problems, obesity, stroke, high blood pressure, heart disease, fetal alcohol syndrome, cirrhosis or scarring of the liver, cancer of the esophagus, mouth, throat, and larynx.

Drinking alcohol ages you by making you look older than you really are. You can definitely tell the difference between someone who drinks alcohol and someone who doesn’t. If you don’t drink alcohol your skin will thank you for it and you will look much younger.

Some people say that drinking alcohol such as wine is good for your health, but only if you have it in moderation. But that’s the real problem with alcohol, i.e. it’s hard to drink it in moderation because of its addicting nature. You can do other things to keep your heart healthy that don’t risk an addiction.

Alcohol causes so many other problems for society too. Drinking and driving is a very big problem. Many people have lost their lives in accidents because of the involvement of someone who is driving while he’s drunk. There are commercials and organizations that put the word out continually that not to drive under the influence of alcohol, but it continues to fall upon dead ears. One of the so called solutions is to get a designated driver before you go out to drink. People believe that they don’t need a designated driver because they do not plan to get drunk, but sadly it all comes back to addiction. Some people take one drink and they get completely drunk, while others may take more than a drink, and still be normal.

If you don’t plan to get drunk, then you won’t appoint a designated driver. But rarely does a person drink just a single glass of alcohol; it is usually done in plenty of them. Drinking clouds your judgment and debars you from thinking properly, thereby making you irresponsible.

There are also bars where people go to drink alcohol on a regular basis. It is not practical to think that each and every person who frequently visits a bar will appoint a designated driver. They drive themselves there and for the most part they will drive themselves home. By doing this, they are risking not only their own life, but also the lives of other commuters on road.

Alcohol is always advertised in a fun way, it is associated with having a good time. Just watch the commercials on television and you see alcohol companies sponsoring many of the sporting events. I really believe this to be hypocritical. If you drink, you can in no way be able to play sports. Drinking alcohol is totally the opposite of what sports are supposed to stand for. They are aspiring and help you to be mentally, physically, and emotionally fit, teach you to overcome any kind of obstacle to achieve your goals, help you in being athletic and in good shape and health and teach you how to compete and to win. None of this is possible when alcohol is in the picture.
The best way to protect your health and your well-being is not to drink at all and encourage others to do the same. Doesn’t that make more sense?

For many decades, the liver problems have been connected to the excessive drinking of alcohol. Among the serious ailments that have been connected to the drinking habits include the hepatitis. But the connection between excessive drinking and the alcoholic hepatitis is very intricate. The fact of the matter is that most people who drink excessively have a lower percentage of contracting alcoholic hepatitis. This only means that those who drink rarely also have a chance of contracting the alcoholic hepatitis.

Ones a person has contracted the alcoholic hepatitis, this can be cured through avoiding drinking. But this is not always the case as some of the alcoholic hepatitis is known to continue eating up the liver. When this is so, the alcoholic hepatitis can easily lead to liver cirrhosis which would later result to the failure of the liver if one does not stop drinking immediately. If an alcoholic addict does not stop his drinking, this could be deadly.

From the recent research, results have come out to educate individuals on how and why alcoholic hepatitis takes place. Despite carrying out all these researches, no treatment for the alcoholic hepatitis has been found yet. The only requirement for those suffering from alcoholic hepatitis is abstaining from alcohol and other products that can damage the liver.

When the liver has been completely damaged that has led to its failure, the only option that will be left will be a liver transplant. But this has not been an easy task. For one, it is very difficult to find a donor. The other problem that is very sensitive is that, when you find a donor, your blood must always much with his/hers.

Signs and symptoms of alcoholic hepatitis

•	Loss of appetite
•	Queasiness and vomiting (sometimes vomiting blood)
•	Abdominal pains and tenderness
•	The yellowing of the skin and whitening of the eyes
•	Constant fevers
•	Swelling of the stomach (due to build up of fluids)
•	Mental confusion
•	Fatigue

This does not mean that they are the only symptoms but they will, depend on the extent of the malady. The condition will continue worsening if the person does not abstain from alcohol.

Causes of alcoholic hepatitis

The liver is one of the vital organs in the body. It is known to perform most of the working as compared to other vital organs. Among the functions that are performed by the liver include

•	Dispensation of nutrients
•	Production of bile
•	Production of blood clotting reagents
•	Elimination of harmful from the blood system.

During the break down of the alcohol, chemical substances are produced. These chemicals trigger inflammation which destroys the liver. At times these deposits that form on the liver thus they tend to substitute the healthy liver tissues which in turn alter the functioning of the liver.

This is what is referred to as the liver cirrhosis and it is the last stage of alcoholic liver disease that is very fatal.

Drug abuse testing is the only way of determining if someone is under the influence a harmful drug. There are many techniques of carrying out different types of drug tests. Sports officials, law enforcement officers and school authorities often carry out these drug abuse tests.

Monitoring behavioral changes is a good way of detecting drug abuse. These changes may range from mood swings to sense of low self-esteem. Moreover, general lack of interest, decrease in grades and withdrawal from involvement with family members are few noticeable signs among drug abuse youngsters. Frequent absenteeism from school as well as changes in dressing style or taste in music is symptoms of drug abuse too. For drug abusers, a decrease in their efficiency in the workplace is most noticeable.

The drug test procedure is a two-step process. First a urine sample is collected from the individual and separated in two parts. One is tested with immunoassay, a relatively inexpensive, simple, yet highly precise test. If this test shows negative result, then the result is confirmed to be negative, and further tests are carried out if more confirmation is required. But if the readings of the first test are positive, then the second test is done using the other portion of the sample.

This confirmatory test is performed with a more sophisticated and costlier technique known as mass spectrometry/gas chromatography (MS/GC) or thin-layer chromatography (TLC). If result of this test shows positive result too, then the person is acknowledged to be under the control of drugs. If this experiment shows negative, the previous test is deemed erroneous. As this almost a 100% accurate procedure, the results can be sustained in a court of law.

Also, there are many drug abuse test apparatuses available around. The saliva drug test can be conducted using integrated cups and strips now. The result of this analysis can be attained in a matter of minutes. These tests are usually done in schools in order to check drug abuse in young adults and children, as they are extremely impressionable and more vulnerable to drug abuse.

Drug abuse among children is one of the major problems faced by parents in today’s world. The children in their teens are very vulnerable and they easily get carried away by their peers. The influences of their friends are at the maximum during the teens. In case the children are interacting with the wrong kind of group who are into drugs, then your child without being aware gets initiated into bad habits. Drug abuse is rampant among the teenage groups. Once you get into this habit then it becomes difficult to overcome it. Drug abuse among the youngsters is destroying the future generation of our country.

There are warning signs of the impending danger but in most cases the parents ignore it. In case the parents are more vigilant then at the outset itself the parents can discover it and nip it off. The few warning signs are –

1. The child will start becoming aloof and at the slightest of provocation tends to become violent. They will feel comfortable to be in their closed door room and would not like to attend any sorts of family events.

2. The second most seen sign is the child will start hiding things from you and behaves in a secretive manner. You may notice his quick reflex trying to hide things from you when you will enter his room all on a sudden.

3. The child will be in need of more money and tends to take cash from your wallet or purse without asking you.

If you are able to recognize the signs and deal with the problem at the very beginning then you can save your child from becoming a victim of drugs. You should identify the problem and talk to your child. It is very essential for every parent to win the confidence of their children so that incase of any problem you will be the first person whom they will turn to.
